Staying pure player : from freelance services to indie software

The desire to stay a pure player : independent, agile, and without physical location, has always been at the core of my journey.

It really crystallized during my Master’s degree (scholar bullyin side class but qual apprenticeship on the other side). In 2019, for my end-of-studies thesis, I had the chance to interview the founder and the marketing director of Evaneos. Speaking with entrepreneurs who had built a digital-first company that scaled internationally left a strong impression on me. I saw how technology could remove physical constraints and create freedom.

A few months later, in January 2020, the vision became clear : I wanted to build something with no physical existence a project I could carry with me anywhere in the world, evolve daily, and scale without traditional limits. That idea guided my transition from freelance services to building software.

From freelance pure player…

For several years I worked as a freelance trainer, consultant, and coach in webmarketing, WordPress, and analytics. I loved the independence: choosing my clients, designing my own programs, and working remotely. Being a pure player in services allowed me to stay light, adapt quickly, and deliver high-value work directly to EdTech companies and learners.

But over time, I felt the natural next step.

…to indie software builder

Freelance gave me freedom and introduced me to digital nomadism, but software gives leverage and scalability.

Today, as an indie hacker, I’m building AI micro-products in the same pure player spirit. No office, no heavy structure — just focused agents that solve real problems in education: ultra-personalized learning paths from existing content, career orientation tools, instant feedback systems, and supportive companions.

The mindset hasn’t changed. Whether I was delivering 1:1 coaching sessions or now shipping small AI agents, the goal remains the same:

  • Stay independent
  • Create value directly
  • Carry everything with me as a digital nomad
  • Continuously evolve and scale

The tools have evolved (from consulting to code and AI agents), but the philosophy is exactly the same one I had back in January 2020: build something borderless that grows with me.

This continuity feels right. Pure player mode, first in services, now in software.

Techie yours,

Angéline
